Hartsdale Firefighters responded to a truck fire on West Hartsdale Avenue between Beechwood Road and Maplewood Road on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 7:51 pm, which closed the roadway for almost two hours.

Despite initial conflicting reports as to whether the fire was on East Hartsdale Avenue, or its actual location on West Hartsdale Avenue, firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes of the initial call and quickly extinguished the fire.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters worked to stabilize the pickup truck, and a trailer carrying 12,000 pounds of steel components it was towing, by securing the vehicle to a tree with a chain.

The driver of the Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck reported he was experiencing engine trouble as he was heading up West Hartsdale Avenue. He stopped his vehicle to look under the hood and immediately saw flames. His only passenger exited the vehicle. There were no injuries.

The Hartsdale Fire Department remained on the scene until tow companies removed the pickup truck and trailer and West Hartsdale Avenue was reopened. Photos by Alan Zale
