On Monday, February 24th, at 2228 hours, the Hartsdale Fire Department received multiple calls for a possible structure fire in the area of South Central Ave and Marion Ave. A full assignment was dispatched with an additional company response from the Greenville Fire District. While en route, an updated location was given as 89 Marion Ave with people possibly trapped inside the structure. Engine 170 reported that they had heavy smoke in the area. Car 2172 requested the Working Fire Assignment, which brought Engine 174 from Fairview, GPD EMS and Scarsdale F.A.S.T to the scene.
Engine 170 arrived on location and reported they had a working fire in a 2 1/2 story private dwelling, with heavy fire on the bravo side. Engine 170 secured their own hydrant and immediately went to work stretching a 2 inch line to the A-side entry door. Engine 171 and TL-54 crews helped to secure a positive water supply then stretched a 2 1/2 inch line to the bravo exposure to prevent additional fire extension into the second floor. Engine 170 crew advanced their line into the first floor to protect the interior stairs and extinguish the fire. Interior crews encountered 4 rooms of fire on division 1 with high heat and low visability conditions. Engine 170 Capt. Reported they had water on the fire and the main body of fire was knocked down, but still had fire running the charlie-side. Engine 170 Crew was relieved by FFD Engine 174. Engine 174 worked to extinguish the remaining fire on the 1st floor. GFD Ladder 4 was directed to stretch a line to the second floor and conduct a primary search for occupants. Ladder 4 crew encountered fire extension to division 2 and began to suppress the flames. E-170 crew re-entered the structure and preformed the primary search on the second floor. Second floor primaries were complete and negative. After exiting the structure and conducting a personal accountability report, it was relayed by command that the occupants had safely evacuated the structure prior to FD arrival.
At 2302 hours, Command reported that the main body of fire was knocked down, holding all companies and overhauling. The fire was placed under control at 2351 hours.
White Plains TL-6 and Elmsford E-237 relocated to HFD station 2. Valhalla VAC, Greenburgh Civil Defense and Cause and Origin Zone 4 all assisted at the scene.
