Family, friends, and fellow firefighters gathered today at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Somers, NY for a final fire department send-off for Retired Hartsdale Firefighter Raymond "Skippy" Baker.

Raymond J. Baker died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday March 9, 2024. He was 64 years old.

As a Hartsdale resident, Ray Baker first joined the Hartsdale Fire Company as a Volunteer and then went on to become a Career Member of the Hartsdale Fire Department in 1980. After a 33 year career, Raymond retired in 2013.

In addition to serving the Hartsdale and the Town of Greenburgh community, Raymond also dedicated his service to his local communities in Northern Westchester, by volunteering his time in the Somers and Goldens Bridge Fire Departments.

During the days following 9/11, Raymond joined hundreds of firefighters at the World Trade Center site, and was temporarily stationed in several firehouses in the Bronx, whose members were working on the rescue and recovery effort at “Ground Zero."

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Baker Family during this difficult time.

God Bless.
