This past Saturday afternoon, April 8th at 3:28 pm, Hartsdale Fire received a 911 phone call from the residents of 21 Sherbrooke Road stating that their house was on fire and their children were on the premise. An immediate Structure Fire Assignment was dispatched, bringing the full Hartsdale Fire complement of Car 2172, E-169, E-170, & TL-15 along with Fairview FD E-175, and Scarsdale FD L-28 to the scene. Seconds after, an additional phone call was received stating an active fire at the same location. The original dispatch assignment was upgraded to a Working Structure Fire Assignment adding SQ-15 from Greenville FD, and TL-6 from White Plains FD to the scene. Three minutes later, at 3:31 pm, HFD Car 2172 arrived on the scene and confirmed the Working Structure Fire by declaring the Signal 10-75 and reported heavy fire showing from the rear of the 2 ½ story wood-frame private dwelling. At 3:36 pm, within 5 minutes of all first-due arriving units, the fire was knocked down, primary searches were completed on all floors, and a positive water supply was established. Additional arriving companies assisted HFD with opening up the walls and ceilings and checked for any fire extension in and around the impinged areas with negative findings.
This quick response by the Hartsdale Fire Department and the accompanying mutual aid units proves the importance of having a professional career-staffed fire department protecting and serving our communities.
Safety Tip: Remember to check your Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector batteries on a routine basis, and always call 911 for all fire-related and medical emergencies. Stay safe.
