Students will be returning to college on-campus and off-campus housing this month. Please review the following safety tips and help
increase awareness about campus fire safety in our community.

Almost all (94 percent) fatal campus fires occur off-campus.
Alcohol is a factor in three-quarters of fatal campus fires.
Cook only where it is allowed. Set a timer on your phone to remind you that food is cooking.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Make sure cigarettes and ashes are out. Never toss hot cigarettes butts or ashes in the trash can.
After a party, check for cigarette butts, especially under cushions. Chairs and sofas catch on fire fast and burn fast.
Don’t smoke when you have been drinking or are drowsy.
Never use an extension cord with large appliances, like a refrigerator.
Do not overload electrical outlets.
