Forcible entry is a skill that covers many tools and techniques that can be used by firefighters to gain access to locked occupancies. These occupancies include your typical residential dwelling, specific apartments within an apartment building or even commercial occupancies just to name a few. Firefighters can use various forcible entry techniques such as conventional forcible entry, hydraulic forcible entry or the through the lock method. Through the lock forcible entry is usually used to gain entry when there is no immediate emergency. Some of these situations can include but are not limited to Gas Leaks, Non Life Threatening EMS Calls, to investigate alarm activations with no sign or smoke or fire from the exterior. Firefighters can use their skills to gain entry by causing only minimal damage to usually only the locks themselves. This technique allows fire department members to gain access to complete the necessary tasks all the while leaving the firefighters the ability to re-secure the door upon departure. Some of the tools covered were the K-Tool, Rex Bar, A-Tool, Channel locks, Screw drivers and various other tools.
