Hartsdale Engine 170 was dispatched to an occupied working structure fire at 174 Boulevard in Scarsdale, NY on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at 3:27 in the afternoon. Car 2171 also responded. At approximately 3:56pm Hartsdale Firefighters Ian Forbes and Tim Collins entered the residence to conduct a search using a ladder as Captain Chip Nanko monitored the search and provided a reference point for exit from the top of ladder at the window. While conducting a search firefighters encountered deep, wall to wall debris, making for a hazardous search condition. At approximately 4:03pm, faced with a low air warning and decreasing visibility, both firefighters successfully bailed out of the building. At 6:55pm, 2174 responded to the scene to provide relief to the Engine 170 crew. All Hartsdale crews were release at 10:30pm. There were two residents at home at the time the fire was reported. One resident was out when Scarsdale firefighters first arrived and the body of the second resident was recovered the next afternoon by SFD. Photos by Alan Zale
