Hartsdale Firefighters were instructed on a New York State Department of Health Update on the use of tourniquets and spinal immobilization at Station 2 on Thursday November 19, 2015. The continuing training HFD receives in the latest emergency medical procedures allows them to provide the most up to date care when responding to a call and providing medical assistance. During this training the firefighters were also familiarized with the Lucas 2, which is an automated, mechanical, external chest compression device that maintains a consistent compression during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without the fatigue experienced by a person doing manual compressions. It will automatically calculate the depth needed for proper compressions based on the individual being treated.
