Hartsdale, along with twelve other Westchester Career Fire Departments, traveled down to Randall's Island in NYC for a multi-departmental drill. At Randall's Island, "The Rock," they have an array of training props and buildings that allow the re-creation of real life incidents and scenarios. This year the departments, in conjunction with FDNY, were involved in live fire training. The purpose of these drill is to work on interoperability. Many Challenges are faced due to different radio frequencies, different staffing or each fire apparatus and differences in equipment carried by each agency. These drills allow members to practice and perform time critical objectives. The FDNY and the Westchester Career Departments strive to work together to accomplish a seamless fire ground operation if the need should ever arise. The training also benefits each individual department and member participating as all are introduced to different ways of accomplishing the same goal that could be used by the members of an agency who ordinarily wouldn’t work together.

These drills have become necessary and important to the FDNY and Westchester Career Departments to prepare in the event of another terrorist attack or large scale emergency, such as 9/11. On 9/11 multiple Westchester Career Departments were stationed to cover firehouses all over New York City.
