The Hartsdale Fire Department joined Greenville, Fairview, Yonkers, White Plains, and several other departments in battling a multiple alarm fire at The Sprain Brook Nursery that was reported shortly after 9pm on Sunday, September 27, 2015 in Scarsdale, NY. Photo by Alan Zale

Hartsdale Engine 171 was assigned on the initial dispatch with Greenville Ladder 4 and Squad 15 to respond to 448 Underhill Road for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival 171 laid a supply line into the scene from Sprain Road to the rear yard of the nursery. Engine 171 operated its apparatus mounted master stream off tank water while the hydrant was being hooked. Engine 171's hydrant firefighter transmitted an urgent message for a dead hydrant. Engine 171 requested Greenville command to assign an additional engine to reverse lay from engine 171's supply line back to the next hydrant on Sprain Road. Fairview Engine 175 took this assignment and located on the hydrant and began a relay pumping operation with Engine 171. The chauffeurs of Engine 175 and Engine 171 worked in unison to supply the two lines operating off Engine 171 often augmenting with both booster tanks due to the limited water supply in the area. Engine 171 operated its apparatus mounter master stream as well as a 2 1/2 inch handline operated by Engine 171's crew for the early stages of the fire. Once more manpower became available Fairview Engine 175's crew relieved Hartsdale members on the 2 1/2 inch line. A 3 inch line was then stretched and the apparatus mounted stream was moved to the ground. Hartsdale Car 2174 arrived with additional Hartsdale members who immediately assisted with operations. Hartsdale members operated on scene from just after 9pm until shortly after 2am.
