HFD Units Knock Down Commercial Kitchen Fire

At 0413hrs on Tuesday, March 31, Hartsdale dispatch received a commercial alarm, smoke detector activation in the kitchen area of Rudy's: Food, Sports, and Entertainment at 156 South Central Avenue. A Full Assignment was dispatched along with Fairview Ladder 1. E-170 arrived on location and reported smoke showing. A 10-75 was transmitted which added Fairview E-174, Greenville Ladder 4, and Scarsdale Ladder 28 as the FAST Truck. E-170's crew utilized the Knox Box key to quickly gain entry through the front door causing no damage. A 2 1/2" attack line was deployed to the door while members of E-169 and E-170 teamed up to locate the fire. A significant fire was located within a commercial grade oven in the kitchen. Extinguishers were utilized first to contain and knock down the fire. E-169's chauffeur performed a forward lay to supply E-170 with positive water. Greenville Ladder 4 arrived on location and was assigned to the roof to check for extension and perform ventilation. Fairview E-174 arrived and conducted primary searches within the restaurant. Scarsdale Ladder 28 threw portable ladders to provide second means of egress for companies operating on the roof. Elmsford Ladder 55 and White Plains E-66 were relocated to Hartsdale HQ. At 0441hrs command was transferred from Car 2172 (Became Operations) to Car 2171. Con Ed Electric and Gas were requested to scene along with Greenburgh Fire Marshall and Westchester County Board of Health. All companies cleared the scene at 0538hrs. During operations, a gas odor was noticed in the street. Con Ed investigated and reported gas readings in the sewers IFO 183 South Central Avenue. Members of Car 2174 and E-170 made entry to multiple occupancies all with negative readings. The scene was turned over to Con Ed and all companies were placed in service at 0633hrs.
