8/12/18 just after 2015Hrs Hartsdale Fire responded to a commercial alarm at 161 South Central Ave. On arrival the fire alarm was sounding and water gong for the sprinkler system was sounding. The water gong sounding is an indication that there is water moving in the system. Hartsdale units checked the premise with nothing obvious in that unit. Members spread out and began gaining access to adjoining occupancies. Upon entry into one of the occupancies water was on the floor. Investigation yielded a sprinkler activation and a odor of burning. The source was quickly located in a walk in refrigerator unit. Electrical wire and insulation had heated up and started a fire. The sprinkler activated extinguishing the fire which also resulted in shorting out the cooling system in the unit. Power was cut to the unit and the area was checked for further fire extension. Units operated for about 90 Minutes.
During this Engine 170 also responded to The Village of Scarsdale for a reported fire/ explosion in a house. Engine 170 was canceled while enroute after Scarsdale units arrived and confirmed there was no fire.
