On Saturday November 18th 2017, members of the Hartsdale Fire Department, in conjunction with the girl scouts and numerous volunteers from the area, came together to feed families in need. This opportunity was provided to the community by the NYC Basket Brigade which runs this event annually (see link below). For over 20 years, the NYC Basket Brigade has gathered to put together boxes of produce, with a turkey attached, and deliver them to local families in need. The produce and turkeys are provided by corporate sponsors and purchases made at local super markets with collected donations. People come together the weekend before Thanksgiving to assemble and organize the care packages. The boxes and turkeys get loaded into box trucks and personal vehicles to be hand-delivered to the families that are less fortunate. This year over 600 baskets were distributed which provides over 2500 people with a Thanksgiving meal. The Hartsdale Fire Department takes a great deal of pride in helping the community and those that are in need. We wish everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
