First Due MVA with Extrication

At 0259hrs on Sunday morning, August 27, HFD received a call from Greenburgh Police reporting a head on accident at the intersection of Secor Road and West Hartsdale Avenue. At 0301hrs GPD updated Hartsdale dispatch that it was a confirmed extrication. Car 2172 and E-171 arrived on location at 0303hrs. Members began sizing up the scene which consisted of two vehicles with a head on impact. 1 Driver was injured and needed extrication, the other driver was out and  uninjured. The extrication tools were set up while E-171 chauffeur stretched an 1 3/4 precautionary hose line and set up scene lighting. E-169 arrived on scene stabilized the vehicle and began assisting with extrication. E-171 crew used the Holmatro spreaders on the hinged side of the passenger door and were able to pop the door open. GPD and E-169 members stabilized the patient who was transferred to an awaiting stretcher for transport to the hospital. The Extrication and patient packaging was complete in less than 5 minutes after arrival on scene. Members also secured both vehicles batteries. All Hartsdale units went back in service at 0403hrs. and scene was turned over to GPD. HFD and GPD members worked jointly to ensure an efficient and successful extrication.
