At 0422 hours on the morning of Sunday March 5, 2017, Hartsdale dispatch received a request from Westchester county 60 Control for HFD's Firefighter Assist and Safety Team (F.A.S.T) to respond to 33 Black Birch Lane in the village of Scarsdale for a 10-75 working structure fire. E-169 was dispatched, and responded to Scarsdale. Upon arrival on scene, HFD members were met with a private residence fully involved in fire. The three HFD Firefighters began to gather all of the F.A.S.T equipment off of the engine while Captain Nanko met with the incident commander to gather instruction on where he would like HFD to set up. Once all of the F.A.S.T equipment was gathered the three HFD Firefighters proceeded to the front of the building to stage equipment. Moments later the incident commander notified Capt. Nanko that he needed HFD members to assist Scarsdale FD in extinguishing the fire. A White Plains engine company was assigned as the new F.A.S.T. Because of the size of the fire and how close a neighboring home was to the fire building, Capt. Nanko ordered two HFD FF's to stretch a hand line from Scarsdale engine 55 to protect the exposure building. He also realized an SFD FF was alone on a 2" 1/2 hose line in the rear of the fire building and ordered the other HFD FF to assist the SFD FF in main fire suppression. As the Fire began to darken down, the members protecting the neighboring home were ordered to reposition their hose line to complete the extinguishment in the rear of the fire building. All members operating work diligently and tirelessly to place the blaze under control while fighting adverse conditions caused by freezing cold temperatures and ice. At 0546 hours SFD command place the situation under control and E-169 was released from the scene and returned back to Hartsdale.
