At just after 2 am Sunday, March 1, 2015, Hartsdale units were dispatched to a reported ceiling collapse at 415 N. Central Ave. Engine 170 was first arriving confirming a ceiling collapse with the front windows shattered. Car 2172 arrived and assumed command. Greenburgh Police expressed concern that it maybe a robbery attempt. Fairview Ladder 1 was requested to position in the front of the building and set the bucket up to provide an aerial observation of the roof. The roof survey proved that there was no sign of entry from the roof and that the roof was fully intact. Hartsdale members equipped with multi gas meters began forcing entry into the exposure buildings in order to check for damage to the structure as well as to take meter readings. Members had no readings on multi gas meters. Con Ed Gas and Electric was requested to the scene as well as an engine from White Plains and a ladder from Greenville to relocate to Hartsdale H.Q. Engine 170 preformed a reverse lay of a 2.5 inch handline out to a hydrant as a precaution. Security footage reveled a small explosion and associated fire ball that blew down the ceiling and out the front windows, The associated flash fire blew itself out. Hartsdale units stood by while Con Ed preformed pressure tests on all occupancies. Hartsdale units returned to service at 705am.
